WAUKEE — Marshalltown junior Carter Nunn charted a lifetime best in the 3,200-meter run to finish in second place, leading the Bobcat boys’ track and field team at the Waukee Northwest Relays on Thursday night.
Nunn clocked in at 10 minutes, 6.9 seconds, to score the silver behind Urbandale senior Blake Smith (9:55.09).
Marshalltown’s distance medley relay team of Fernando Garcia, Evan Anderson, Kieron Sharp and John Moellers took third place with a season-best time of 3:47.68.
The Bobcats added a sixth-place finish from the 4×400 quartet of Sharp, Aiden Smitherman, Moellers and Isacc Ceniceros (3:39.79). The sprint medley relay (Anderson, LaMar Johnson, Smitherman, Ceniceros; 1:41.47) and the 4×100 (Garcia, Johnson, Jayden Lavender, Anderson; 45.51) both finished in seventh, as did Owen Eaton in the shot put with a personal-best heave of 45 feet, 9 1/2 inches. Smitherman scored a personal record in the 400 with a 53.97.
