WAVERLY — The Marshalltown boys’ cross country team finished seventh out of 19 teams in the “Gray” division of the Dan Hutson/Steve Johnson Invitational on Saturday at the Wartburg Max Championship Cross Country Course.
John Moellers led the Bobcats by finishing in 11th place in a time of 15 minutes, 59.3 seconds. Carter Nunn and Preston Johnson came across consecutively in 23rd and 24th place, clocking 16:28.0 and 16:28.8, respectively.
Parker Gooding was 74th in 17:31.4, and Myles Goldman rounded out the team scoring in 123rd place in 18:28.
Gilbert won the team title with 66 points, followed by Bettendorf (136) and Johnston (146). The Bobcats were seventh with 228 points.
The Marshalltown girls finished last out of 13 teams in the “Orange” division, scoring 313 points collectively. Earlham won the title with 61 points, followed by Clear Lake (70) and Cedar Rapids Xavier (107).
Millie Heitmann led MHS by finishing 34th in 22:35.0, while Anessa Morrision took 57th in 23:28.2. Jorja Janssen (78th, 25:35.7), Sophia Valdez Chavez (78th, 25:58.2) and Kaitlyn Yepez (80th, 26:13.0) finished in a group to round out the team scoring.
BCLUW was 10th with 238, powered by a pair of top finishes from seniors Kalia Stover (17th, 21:21.2) and Abby Kemp (26th, 21:59.9). Chloe Switzer was 31st (22:14.5).
The South Tama boys took 12th (329) and BCLUW (377) was 14th in the 17-team “Orange” division. Barrett Jesina led STC with a fourth-place finish in 16:43.2, while BCLUW’s Cayden White was 24th in 17:59.5.
